Our primary business is operating and managing a federal credit union. Credit Unions are not-for-profit
financial cooperatives, taking pride in the fact that their sole reason for existence is helping their member-owners achieve their financial dreams.
In the 1800s credit unions were started to support farmers who were otherwise unable to secure financial support from the larger financial institutions of their time.
A few farmers would pool their money to be lent to one another in support of their agricultural businesses. These small financial cooperatives grew over time and provided a means for the less fortunate to strive for a better life.
Much like the days of old, the credit union is still providing the same services to the underserved as it was in the 1800s. Instead of rural setting, the urban area is place of our existence.
Mt Airy Baptist Church located at 1100 North Capitol Street, NW, Washington, DC 20002, sponsored our credit union by providing space within their facility for its operation. Thus the name, the Mt Airy Baptist Church Federal Credit Union (MABCFCU).
MABCFCU is currently a multi-source, low income designated credit union. Our field of membership includes the Mt Airy Baptist Church family and several small groups who have joined us. We are currently in an expansion mode in which we hope to increase our assets to better serve our community and its people.
